GOLD MEDALLIST BROWNFIELD HAS AAU TIES

July 18, 2006- Breaking world records and winning gold medals may seem like an impossibility for some, but for paralympic powerlifter Kim Brownfield, it's just another day at the office. Brownfield, a 28-year veteran of paralympic powerlifting, has broken a U.S. and World Record in almost every federation around. He is a five-time parlympian and four time gold medallist, notably winning the gold in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympic Games and at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

After a career filled with several highlights and records, Brownfield decided to retire to focus on coaching. As the current coach of the USOC paralympic powerlifting team, Brownfield brings incredible experience and enthusiasm to the sport he loves. In addition to serving as USOC coach, Brownfield is involved in the AAU as the committee chair for the Disabled Athletes Committee. Said Brownfield, "I love competing and supporting the AAU because it is a federation legitimized by its Olympic and Paralympic connection."

Brownfield is the current American record holder in the 100kg+ category when he lifted 247.5kg (544.5 lbs) in 1999. In addition to holding and breaking records throughout his career, Brownfield has personal bests in the bench press of 655 lbs (at 220 lbs), 625 lbs (at 242 lbs), 551 lbs (at 198), and 500 lbs (at 181 lbs). Brownfield's incredible bench press scores show his versatility throughout the weight classes and his amazing ability to continue to lift.

In addition to a career filled with highlights, world records, and gold medals, Brownfield continues to do well outside of powerlifting. He is currently in the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs as an Assistant District Supervisor. Brownfield's family also plays an important part in his life. "My son Kaylon and my daughter Kalamity have truly been my inspiration in life and lifting for many years." Kim Brownfield's accomplishments in and out of paralympic powerlifting will be remembered for years to come.
